ffmpeg "Underestimated required buffer size"
10 avril 2021, par KajunaI'm seeing this error on some Windows machine when converting an 8K png stream to ProRes 4444 with ffmpeg. The command looks like

ffmpeg -f image2pipe -framerate 30000/1001 -i - -c:v prores_ks -y output.mov

And the output

How could I debug this considering I don't have access to the problematic machine (a user does) ? Could the "not enough frames to estimate rate ; consider increasing probesize" message be related to the problem ?

Thanks

Edit : I increased probesize and that warning disappeared, but the conversion keeps failing with the same error message "Underestimated required buffer size". I can now reproduce this on one of my Windows machines.

Edit 2 : Not a solution but I found out that this problem is gone if using ffmpeg 4.2.3 and was introduced with 4.3

Basic "pass-through" use of FFmpegReader/FFmpegWriter in scikit-video
6 février 2021, par JonathanZ supports MonicaCI am starting to use scikit-video and am having trouble writing files. I have reduced the problem to the simplest possible example

vid_file = "6710185719062326259_stamp_25pct.mp4"
output_file = "out_temp3.mp4"
reader = skvideo.io.FFmpegReader(vid_file)
writer = skvideo.io.FFmpegWriter(output_file)
for frame in reader.nextFrame():
 writer.writeFrame(frame)
writer.close()

I'm playing the files in VLC, and the
vid_file
is valid but the output file, though playable, is mostly big green blocks (though I can discern some details from the original video in it).

My goal, or course, is to do "interesting" manipulations of the frame before I write it out, but I need to get the "no modifications" version working correctly first. I'm also going to be using this on large files, so the
vread/vwrite
functions that process an entire file at once are not appropriate.

I'm guessing I need to set the appropriate values in the
outputdict
parameter for the FFmpegWriter, but there are so many that I don't know where to start. I have tried

writer = skvideo.io.FFmpegWriter(output_file, outputdict={'-crf': '0', '-pix_fmt': 'rgb24'})

(
-crf 0
to suppress any compression,-pixfmt rgb24
as that's what FFmpegReader says it delivers by default, but these don't work either.

Any ideas on how to make this work ?

Here's the
skvideo.io.ffprobe
video information for the input file.

I will mention that when I ffprobe the output file the only differences I see are 1) the timing data is different, which isn't surprising, and 2) the output file has

"@has_b_frames": "0",
 "@pix_fmt": "yuv444p",

I'm pretty confident the reader is working okay, because if I write out the data with

skimage.io.imsave('x.png', frame, check_contrast=False)

it looks good.

FFMPEG : Extract Audio with exact Timing despite corrupted intermediate audio chunks
5 novembre 2020, par user2029101I have a full automated tool chain which first concatenate video chunks and adjusts user events to it.
This first step uses 3rd party software, I am not able to fix the problem there.
Later in the process I extract the audio from the video. Sometimes there are corrupted audio chunks inbetween. FFMPEG ignores the corrupted parts on extraction. So I got a mutch shorter audio (the linked events rely on the exact length of the org A/V). It wouldnt be a big issue if it would only happen at the end, I know how to pad it there, but at random poistions, I didnt find an option at the documentation doing the job.
The only solution that worked was (pretty dirty I know) to convert the video to another video container with removed video stream and rename the file to MP3/AAC. It was working at windows/Android but all Mac-Browser didnt play it.

The -filter_complex -discard looks promising but I didnt find any good example for the correct syntax.
I have found an Adobe Tool doing the job correctly so I hope there is a way to do with ffmpeg, too.
