• ffmpeg - automatically chopped ?

  I have an ISO file that I would like to encode it out to mp4 in parts so it's easier to upload to youtube. I am not sure how it handles with chapters etc in this iso file. I have tried

  ffmpeg -i file.iso newfile.mp4

  which works great however it's one large file.

  I have google and read some where that says if you put a % within the output file, it should automatically give you parts of the video based on the -t you set, so I went ahead and did this

  ffmpeg -i file.iso -t 30 newfile%.mp4 

  however, the above does not work as it only give me 30 seconds with the file name : newfile%.mp4

  I have a bit of code that gets a video files duration, width, height and framerate which works fine for some videos -

  $output = `ffmpeg -i /var/thismovie.avi`;
  
  preg_match('/Duration: (.*?),.*?Video:.*?0x.*?([0-9]+)x([[0-9]+).*?([0-9]+) fps/i'
  
  ,$output , $result);

  The problem is there are other videos that give a slightly different output information, for example the above code works with this output -

  Input #0, avi, from '/var/www/vhosts/thissite.com/httpdocs/video1.avi':
  
  Duration: 00:00:10.76, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 5180 kb/s

  but another video gives this info and will not give any results when used with the above code -

  The difference between the two outputs is in the Stream #0:0 part. The fist output shows 7 different pieces of information separated by a comma, the last output only shows 6 bits. The missing piece of info in the last output is the frame rate (fps) but apparently I can use the value for tbr instead.

  So my question is, how can I modify the code I am using to cover both types of outputs ?

• Extracting text subtitles using ffmpeg libraries

  I'm writing a C program that uses the ffmpeg's libav* libs, and using Dranger's tutorial, I can decode both audio and video correctly. Currently, I'm trying to extract subtitles. I actually don't want to decode them on time and display them on the video, but actually extract the subtitle text out of the container.

  For example, on the cli,

  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -map 0:4 -scodec copy out.ass

  would give me the ass file back. (For some reason, srts only return the text.)

  I've tried messing with AVSubtitle, avcodec_decode_subtitle2, etc., but they're returning the subtitles line by line. I would like the timecodes in srts, header information in ass, etc. All I want is the entire subtitle text file that was muxed into the container.
