• OpenCV ffmpeg DLL not loaded when running app on Windows 7, works on 8 and 10

  I need to maintain a desktop app written in C++, using Qt and OpenCV for some video processing. As far as I understood, the decoding part of OpenCV is delegated to ffmpeg in a separate DLL for licensing reasons.

  The development environment is on Windows 10, using QT Creator and MSVC12 64-bit as compiler. OpenCV version is 3.0, the official distribution. Here, everything runs fine, I am able to decode a video using VideoCapture::open().

  Issues arise when I try to run the application in a standalone fashion with all the required DLLs in the same folder as the .exe file. All cases below are 64-bit OSes.

  On a Windows 10 computer, not the same as the developement machine and no developer libraries present, the video decoding works fine. I have tested on a Windows 8 machine as well, no issues so far.

  On Windows 7, the things get tricky. The same video files that successfully load during the previous tests are not recognized by the app at all i.e. the isOpened call on VideoCapture returns false. For further testing, I stripped the opencv_ffmpeg300_64.dll file to narrow down the issue on Windows 10 and 8 ; as expected, without this DLL the app is no more able to open the same video files.

  It seems that the DLL is simply not recognized on Windows 7.

  Edit : Further investigation using Process Explorer clearly shows that the aforementioned DLL is not loaded when the app runs on Windows 7.

  • Is there something specific about how Windows 7 manages the DLL path resolution and eventual security measures ? Seems normal that the first search location is the same folder as the executable, which is the case here.

  I have tried to trace using WinApiOverride32, with no results.

• FFMPEG saving frame from video works in localhost but not working in live server

  I’m using FFMPEG to take a frame from a video. My code is working all fine in localhost but, fails to execute in server.

  Code I’m executing :

  $ffmpeg = \FFMpeg\FFMpeg::create();
  
  
  
  $video = $ffmpeg->open($File_temp_name);
  
  
  
  $video
  
       ->frame(\FFMpeg\Coordinate\TimeCode::fromSeconds(1))
  
       ->save($saveLocation);

  This code is executing fine in localhost but, when I execute the same in server it is showing an error

  Exception 'FFMpeg\Exception\RuntimeException' with message 'Unable to save framesexception 'Alchemy\BinaryDriver\Exception\ExecutionFailureException' with message 'ffmpeg failed to execute command'

  Command Getting executed is :

  '/usr/bin/ffmpeg' '-y' '-ss' '00:00:01.00' '-i' '/tmp/php02MmoD' '-vframes' '1' '-f' 'image2' '/home/project/public_html/dev/frontend/web/uploads/temp-video-frames/1499319488-act-thumbnail.jpg'

  I’ve tried to execute the command in terminal and found it executing without any error and save frame in desired location. But, when I run it through my code it is throwing above error

  I looked at the similar questions, and the solutions there do not work in my case. Anyone has any idea ? I am trying to capture a thumbnail from a given video file.

  Later, my goal is to capture a thumbnail from live streaming video file.

  Below is my current set up.

  Linux Ubuntu 16.04

  PHP version 7.0

  Nginx Version 1.10.3

  FFmpeg Version FFmpeg 2.8.11

  I installed FFmpeg through below commands in my Ubuntu server.

  apt-get update
  
  apt-get install ffmpeg

  When I type the below command line in the terminal, it does the conversion fine.

  ffmpeg -i /etc/nginx/html/test.mp4 -ss 00:00:01 -vframes 1 -vf scale=240:120 /etc/nginx/html/Share/ffmpeg/thumbnails/test.png;

  In order to use it in php file, I confirmed the location of ffmpeg binaries by I typing in the terminal, which ffmpeg, and it returns /usr/bin/ffmpeg

  I also gave permission to the directory by using chmod 755 command line.

  Here is what I have in my ffmpeg.php file.
  I included the full path to my ffmpeg as you can see.

  UPDATED : I also gave permission to ffmpeg by chmod +x $(which ffmpeg)

  I tried php /etc/nginx/html/Share/ffmpeg/ffmpeg.php in the terminal, and it also does conversion fine.
